Camping with consideration for nature
At Hestehaven Camping, we are proud to have received the Greenstay label, awarded by Camping Outdoor Denmark. This certification recognizes our focused efforts on sustainability and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing you with a vacation experience that cares for the environment.
For campsites, the certification evaluates performance based on six of the UN’s SDGs. Below, you can read about our achievements and what we plan to improve.
During the evaluation in September 2024, we received an overall score of 81.2%. Our goal is to reach 85% by the end of 2025.
Quality education
We believe that knowledge and education are important for sustainable development. That’s why we strive to educate both our staff and guests on how we can take better care of the environment together. Our employees receive ongoing training in eco-friendly practices, and we share small tips and ideas with our guests through signs and information material.
Clean water and sanitation
We are committed to conserving water. We’ve installed water-saving showers and taps throughout our facilities and regularly check for leaks. Additionally, we use eco-friendly cleaning products to protect both the environment and our guests.
By 2025, we will further reduce water consumption by replacing older taps and showers and equipping all sinks with touch-free sensors.
Affordable and Clean Energy
We have already installed 70 solar panels that produce both electricity and hot water. Our facilities use LED lighting and motion sensors in common areas to save energy.
Moving forward, we will explore upgrading old equipment to more energy-efficient models and increasing the use of renewable energy at the campsite.
Responsible Consumption and Production
We practice waste sorting and encourage our guests to do the same. We also prioritize purchasing eco-labeled products whenever possible and aim to minimize the use of single-use plastics.
In the coming months, we will enhance our waste management system to make it easier for guests and staff to sort and dispose of waste correctly.
Climate Action
We consider our carbon footprint in everything we do. For example, we use eco-friendly cleaning products, environmentally certified paper, and strive to reduce overall paper consumption. We also ensure proper ventilation and indoor air quality in our buildings.
We recently installed an automatic emptying station for toilet cassettes. This system cleans the cassettes and automatically adds an eco-friendly solution, reducing water and cleaning product consumption.
Life on Land
We do not use harmful chemicals to control weeds and are committed to preserving the natural environment around our campsite. For example, we’ve planted an additional 200 meters of hedgerow and created wildflower areas that attract bees and butterflies.
We are working to establish even more green and wild spaces where nature can thrive. In the future, we will develop informational materials about the local flora and fauna to help guests learn more about the surrounding natural environment.
